It's An Old Story But I'll Tell It Again

Remember when furry fandom was about anthropomorphic animals?

    It still is.

    Interesting Trivia About [info]bananner:

    1) [info]bananner is nowhere as nasty or batshit crazy as his critics are. (Yeah, some folks call him crazy, but they usually have more issues than he does.)

    2) This is because [info]bananner's critics consist mainly of the anti-furry, Take Back The Fandom, too-extreme-for-the-Burned-Furs nutcase [info]symphonic_rp and his little gaggle of Encyclopedia Dramatica cronies. (And somewhat inexplicably, [info]starblade_enkai, a/k/a Starbles, a/k/a [info]iexplodeu, a/k/a [info]intoza, a/k/a [info]gethik, who seems really desperate for some sort of attention lately. Hi, Starbles! How's Palshife doing?)

    3) It was genuinely surprising to see [info]badjahsensei flip out and start defending the Burned Fur/Take Back The Fandom/Encyclopedia Dramatica types, but I guess they had him snowed pretty good there.

    4) In fact, it's doubtful any of [info]bananner's critics ever even realized they were supporting the Burned Fur/Take Back Our Fandom/Encyclopedia Dramatica nutcases.

    5) However, [info]bananner felt vindicated a few weeks later when the [info]symphonic_rp/[info]jarrodhenry/[info]enelar lynch mob all turned on each other and exploded in drama. (Hey, I saw that coming a mile away. Ya can't say I didn't try to warn ya.)

    6) The bottom line is that [info]bananner's only crime in all this is that he stooped to their level rather than use the "ignore them and they'll go away" tactic (which, as has been demonstrated, doesn't work), and could have better spent the time doing all the cool things he usually does 99% of the time instead of responding to these guys.

So now you know the rest of the story. Next time, maybe folks will ask [info]bananner directly what's going on instead of just unquestioningly accepting what the Big Drama crowd tells them.

Far Away From The Rest Of Us, Hopefully
Right. This revelation deserves its own post:

As if anyone really needed any more proof that this was all about the psychodrama, [info]symphonic_rp's biggest supporters consist of bitter ex-fans, members of Encyclopedia Dramatica and Crush Yiff Destroy, and of course, members of Burned Furs II Improved Anthropomorphics.

Real classy bunch of folks there. I'm sure he'll go far. :D

    So I've been thinking...
Maybe we shouldn't bother trying to make furry fandom a nice place for everyone... because no matter how much you bend over backwards to please some people, they're never never never never never going to be satisfied. Some people just live to complain.

Edit: Nah, wait... I've got a better idea... we should make furry fandom a nice place for middle-of-the-road folks like me who like anthropomorphic animals, and not give a rat's ass about the extremists who only care about psychodrama. The extremists aren't going to be happy here no matter what we do, and all they ever do is rain on our parade anyway so nobody really wants them around. Ergo, we shouldn't be trying to convince the extremists to stay. Okay, okay, I get it now! It's a self-correcting problem! Godspeed, [info]symphonic_rp! You'll be remembered as an hero!

    Words Of Wisdom
Apropos of people who like anthropomorphic animals but can't get along with other people who like anthropomorphic animals, we present you with this:

Remember, kids, it's not the thing you fling, it's the fling itself that counts.

    Cause & Effect
I've figured it out! From a post in [info]verix's journal...

    This is what has happened:

    • [info]symphonic_rp got mixed up with the wrong crowd.

    • [info]symphonic_rp let the extremists on both sides of the fence color his judgement.

    • [info]symphonic_rp decided he values psychodrama more than anthropomorphic animals.

    This is what will happen:

    • [info]symphonic_rp will still be involved in drama and politics. Only this time it will be "anthro fandom" drama and politics... because anthro fandom isn't really based around anthropomorphic animals... it's based around hating furry fandom.

    • [info]symphonic_rp won't have to deal with perversion... but he will deal with "ANTHROPOMORPHIC EROTICA" (c/o Mr. Kevin Duane! HA!) which is so much better than furry porn.

    • [info]symphonic_rp will avoid the conventions which cater to the people who like anthropomorphic animals and stay at home. He will surround himself with a small group of grumpy and bitter yes-men ex-fen with grudges against the fandom in his journal that will reassure him that he made the right choice. Everyone else in the fandom will continue to create and go to conventions and have a good time without him.

    • [info]symphonic_rp will become jealous all the other people who like anthropomorphic animals are continuing to create and go to conventions and have a good time without him, and he'll make sour grapes whines about the fandom in his journal for years and years, ensuring no furry fans (other than the disgruntled ones) want to associate with him. Because the only thing more important to [info]symphonic_rp than anthropomorphic animals is psychodrama about people who like anthropomorphic animals.

How do we know this will happen?

Because that's what happens to EVERYONE who goes down this path.

Some People Like Leaving The Fandom So Much They Can't Stop Leaving
"The day one of these articles _directly_ affects me is the day I quit." —That Guy Who Used To Be A Big Name, 4 days before leaving the fandom in 2001

"Sorry, not leaving. You're stuck with me. You're stuck with us all. All the Furs who are not perves and will never allow perves to rule our fandom or our lives." —[info]symphonic_rp, 5 days before leaving the fandom in 2007

The great thing about history is that those who fail to learn from its lessons end up repeating them.

So here's my prediction of how this will play out (because this is the way it always plays out):

[info]symphonic_rp will [continue to] surround himself with grumpy, bitter ex-fen, spend the next six years [maybe more!] complaining about how awful furry fandom is, and remind anyone who will listen how great it is he left.

And everyone who doesn't like to be around grumpy, bitter ex-fen will continue enjoying anthropomorphic animals without him, and agree about how great it is he left, too.

    Everyone wins!

Sitting On The Third Side Of The Fence
So let's see if I've got the battle lines figured out in this latest kerfluffle:

On the one side, we've got a few fans who want to throw free condoms around in the lobbies of furry conventions and have safe sex seminars and a bunch of stuff which has nothing to do with anthropomorphic animals...

On another side, we've got a few fans who turn into gigantic drama llamas and scream how the fandom is being overrun by sexually dysfunctional, socially stunted and creatively bankrupt hacks and pervs...

And on the third side—my side—we've got a whole lot of fans who just like anthropomorphic animals and are going to stay in furry fandom creating artwork and writing stories and building costumes and doing puppet shows and honing our skills and setting world records and having fun no matter what the other two sides do, because we're the ones who understand what really matters.

Yeah, that about sums it up.

Jeez. Someone needs to document [info]symphonic_rp's slow descent into madness.

If we can figure out why it happens, we may be able to prevent it in the future.

    A Parable
    "Daddy?"

    "Yes, son?"

    "What does regret mean?"

"Well, son... a funny thing about regret is, that it's better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven't done. And by the way, if you see your mom this weekend, would you be sure to tell her
